How the CILS B1 Citizenship exam is structured

The CILS B1 Citizenship exam assesses the main language skills needed to communicate in Italian.

The test generally includes:

  • listening, to check comprehension of dialogues and spoken messages;
  • reading comprehension, with short texts and questions;
  • communication structures, with grammar and vocabulary exercises;
  • written production, to write short texts, messages or emails.

Preparation should therefore focus both on grammar and on the practical use of the language in real situations.
