The CILS A2 Integration exam is the Italian language certification required to obtain the EU long-term residence permit. It certifies level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Who needs the CILS A2 Integration exam
The A2 Integration exam is intended for foreign citizens living in Italy who need to prove their knowledge of Italian for residence purposes.
It is particularly useful for those who:
- are applying for the EU long-term residence permit;
- need to fulfil the Integration Agreement;
- need a recognized language certification at level A2.
How the exam is structured
The CILS A2 Integration exam assesses the basic language skills needed to communicate in Italian in everyday life.
The test generally includes:
- listening, to check comprehension of dialogues and spoken messages;
- reading comprehension, with short texts and questions;
- analysis of communication structures, with grammar and vocabulary exercises;
- written production, to write short texts, messages or emails.
Preparation should therefore focus both on grammar and on the practical use of the language in real situations.
